The Emperor of story book fame had nothing on almost 50 local children on July 28th, when members of Fort Yuma Rotary took them on a whirlwind spree through Mervyn's to purchase them each more than one hundred dollars worth of new clothes.

The shopping spree, which was arranged with the help of Boys and Girls Club Director and Fort Yuma member Louis Galaviz, was one of two annual shopping sprees to benefit local children.  The July spree outfits each child with new clothes for school, underwear, socks and shoes.  Each member escorted one or more children and helped with their selections, spending an allotted $100.  Mervyn's generously offered an additional 25% discount, allowing the club to spend $125.00 on each child.  While each member sharply chose sale items and bargains to stretch their purchasing dollar, the kids eyed hip, fashionable clothes to look sharp in school.  After the spree, the children were taken back to the B&G Club for a haircut, eye exam, dental exam and breakfast.  We'll return again in December to purchase more children winter clothes and jackets.  Fort Yuma loves spending money on the community, and when we can spend it on kids, it is just that much more fun.
